Completely agree. The inconsistency in hitting was my biggest issue in 18, and it just doesn’t seem like it’s been addressed. I was hopeful, but I’m not sure now.
Edit: It might have just been one game where the wind was blowing in. I just played another game and hitting felt really good.
No problem bud, and thanks to you too. I know that all of us really just want this game to be as good as possible.
I see what you’re saying, and you make valid points.
One thing we can do to get a better idea of how top tier players perform, is to draft them in BR. Typically, I would never draft a diamond SP or diamond RP in BR, but I will during this Alpha, for the very reasons you laid out above.
Maybe it’s just me, but I really do feel like it should always be a hard hit ball (and usually a homerun) if I hit the ball in the very middle of the PCI with “good” or “just early” timing. Is it just me???
Edit: and... I should never hit a home run if my PCI isn’t touching the ball.
Seriously, is it really a big deal that you didn’t get any diamonds?? The purpose of this Alpha isn’t to build amazing squads, it’s to test the game and give feedback.
If everyone had an end-game lineup of stud pitchers and hitters, the feedback would be 100% slanted toward that. I think it’s good that most of us are running out squads with silver/gold lineups, because it isn’t as likely to skew the feedback.
I appreciate the fact that you came back in this thread to say that you’ve changed your opinion. That’s very classy, bro. I wish more people would be like this.
Ah, that makes sense. Good call on this!
I preordered already, but I’m starting to regret that, based on what I’ve seen up to this point.
I was a HUGE fan of the pitching and hitting in MLB 17 (but I like tagging and fielding more in 18), and I was really hoping that pitching and hitting would be changed back to be like 17.
I think it would have been the best move (from a sales perspective) to make 19 more like 17 or 16. Some people might point to the high sales of 18 as a counter argument to this, but the high sales of 18 are actually a reflection of how much people liked 17.
I personally feel like it’s more difficult to hit when the PCI can extend outside beyond the Strikezone, but it’s not that big of an issue to me.
Yes, totally agree with this. It really puts a much bigger emphasis on the fielding ratings of a player, especially at 3B, SS and 2B.
I prefer Gagne as well, but Koji is also very good. As for most pitchers, they tend to do better after you reach CS, since the PCI gets a lot smaller.
I think he’s pretty good, and I agree that you have to use the sinker (I won’t use the 4 seam though) up and in. High sinkers are still pretty effective, especially when they are boring in on a RH batter.
As with most pitchers, the key is to try and make every pitch “look” the same out of the hand. When you’re using Eck, try starting the slider, curve and sinker all in the same general spot. Each one will end up in a different spot, which will keep your opponent off balance. It also helps to change your pitching view to be from behind the pitcher, so you can see the plane of the break.
I think they said the Alpha is tentatively planned for December 13-19, so the invites will probably be sent out around December 10th.
In my opinion, the best Lefty SP in the game is Pirates Epic Oliver Perez. He’s only an 83 gold, but he’s better than Kershaw, Sale, Vida or Spahn. He’s the only lefty I have in my rotation, which includes Immortal Seaver, Immortal Feller, Finest Scherzer and 92 Hersh.
Yep, I can’t get online either
I love the fact that Sandberg and Kershaw are WS rewards, but I also think they should be available on the marketplace. Like last year with Roberto Alomar, which everyone wanted, and is still selling for 500,000 stubs in 2017.
All I want (in regards to hitting) is consistency. The problem with 18 is that it’s so inconsistent, and we are constantly “Early” on fastballs and “Late” on breaking balls. In my opinion, that’s a problem.
Also, I just want perfect PCI placement to always be rewarded, and bad PCI placement to never be rewarded. When I have perfect PCI placement, it should be a hit 90% of the time. And Nobody should ever hit a HR if their PCI isn’t completely covering the ball.
If SDS can fix these issues, we will be on the road towards 19 being a much better game.
You are deceiving yourself if you think only the people on TSN are unhappy with the gameplay. The majority of people on Twitter, as well as almost every YouTuber, thinks that 18 was a massive step backwards.
In fact, many of the #SonyPartners YouTubers even put out videos early in the year about how bad the game is. They only stopped making those videos after they became Sony Partners.
I would say that at least 75% of the online players were very unhappy with the online play in 18.
SDS guarantees that 8% of the time it’ll work every time.
No joke, one of the best SP (and still in my Ranked Seasons rotation until I got Immortal Feller) was the Pirates Team Epic 83 Oliver Perez. It could just be personal preference, but I love using him.
