I’ve played about 5 or six games in MTO on Hall of Fame, and I have two home runs by Matt Carpenter, one by Paul Goldschmidt, one by Marcell Ozuna, and one by Matt Weiters. Moments is messed up though. This has been discussed at length.
That would take forever.
If the difficulty in the Moments is as intended, then at least they need to correct the stated difficulties when you select them, because they are clearly misleading.
Having to play a full 9 inning game to get similar rewards doesn’t really feel like it’s conducive to being exploited.
This isn’t really a theory. SDS said that timing and pitch location would play bigger roles. At any rate, while it has resulted in more hits to center and opposite fields for me, the majority of home runs and extra base hits I have hit have been pulled. Also bear in mind that a hitter’s tendencies will also influence where the ball ends up.
Power shouldn’t work like it did last year. It was too easy to hit home runs. I’ve had home runs on “squares up” hits, but not everything that is squared up is going to be a homer, even with power hitters. You’re doing exactly what I said the problem was: you’re comparing the game with 18 and acting like 18 had it right, rather than adjusting to this year’s version.
You’re complaining that you’re not hitting a lot of home runs on AS with mediocre players in shortened games? I’m not exactly sure what it is you want from the game. It seems like you want to be able to mash on difficulties that are clearly above your ability with a bad team, and are upset that you can’t.
But I used HoF as an example. In fact, I’ve probably got more home runs/ab in my MTO run than any other mode I’ve played.
I don’t know how long it will take, but I think he will be a stud. I wonder what that Future Stars card is going to look like.
And kudos to the Padres for starting him right away instead of trying to manipulate his service time by acting like he isn’t ready.
Despite whether what you’re suggesting is true or not, the difference between Moments and other modes is almost certainly explained by a discrepancy in advertised vs actual difficulty. It makes more sense than slider tweaks. I suspect we will hear something from SDS soon on this, one way or the other.
I haven’t had any issues with Conquest after about 5-6 games (after the first game when I was using scrubs). I put up 12 runs on Veteran in one game.
Bear in mind I’m only talking about Moments. I think power is fine elsewhere (haven’t tried RTTS, so can’t speak to it).
I like Moments, but I have observed what OP is talking about. Like I said, I have had at least a little more success than what others seems to have had, but what I have seen is observable, and I don’t think it is what SDS intended. I really don’t think Harper’s PCI in these Moments on Veteran and All-Star is supposed to be as small as it is, when judging by PCIs I’ve seen on other game modes at the same difficulty. So while I want there to be a challenge, it needs to be a challenge that has been balanced with the scenario you are given, as well as the rewards you receive. If I’m playing something that says it’s on Veteran difficulty, but in reality it is something else, that’s an issue that needs fixing, even if you or I or someone else can overcome the challenges.
To hear some of you complain, apparently I do. I have hit 5 homers in the three MTO games I’ve played, and with 4 different hitters. This is on HoF difficulty. I’ve hit three home runs across 5 Conquest games, one with Miguel Cabrera on All-Star difficulty (the other two were on Veteran). This is to say nothing of the several hard hit balls to the gap I’ve had. I don’t know what you want me to say. Should I pretend like I’m struggling too, or just not say anything, to coddle some of your egos? I’m a solid player, but I’m not that good. I’ve never won 12 games in a BR run or gotten any higher than DS in Ranked Seasons. I do think there may be a difficulty discrepancy on Moments, but I’m not seeing the issues on other modes.
As far as adjustments, people have obviously not adjusted to pitch speeds, and to the fact that timing and location of the pitch have a greater impact on hit result. I think too many have been conditioned to think that as long as they get the PCI on the ball, even if they are early and the ball is out of the strike zone, they should be crushing homers. Because you could do that too often in 18. Well right now I’m happy with how hitting is going, and I don’t think it needs any major changes outside of maybe looking at the issue with Moments.
I’ve seen lots of people talk about offline in general, referencing modes like M2O and Conquest. But I’ve seen no problems there. Only Moments is potentially messed up.
Although I haven’t had a lot of the issues others have had in Moments, I did notice what you are talking about with PCI sizes last night while trying to do a Harper mission. His PCI, even on Veteran, seems way too small for someone with 65 vision. I could believe there is some issue with the wrong difficulties actually being applied in at least some moments.
I’ve hit a lot of homers in my M2O in just a few games. I just hit a solo shot with Matt Carpenter and a walkoff grand slam with Weiters, both against Kenley Jensen. And I’m on Hall of Fame. I’m a solid player, but I’m really not that good. I’m really going to be miffed if they mess with this because of people who simply won’t adjust.
Hopefully they leave it alone.
A lot of you are making me sound like an apologist on this board, but I just can’t get my head around some of your complaints. Not being able to practice swing online is ruining hitting for you? That’s an incredibly minute thing to get hung up on.
I’m liking it more than I liked 18 at this point last year.
I’d say it’s worth it if you had fun playing it. It’s not even technically a DD mode, despite the rewards. Why not just enjoy it for what it is?
Get a grip. Moments aren’t a great way to judge hitting because they are highly proscribed situations with specific conditions. I think if people are having problems with Moments, it says more about the moments the devs created. I really like the mode, but some of the scenarios they put you in are a bit much.
I’ve gotten tons of extra base hits and homers so far. I hit two three run home runs in my first M2O game on Hall of Fame just a little bit ago. I really hope they don’t change anything to appease complainers who can’t take more than one day to get acclimated.
Can’t say I agree.
